Day 79 of 100 Indian Tinder Tales
S from Pune shares her tale.
“I have been on Tinder for over a year now. Swiped, matched, unmatched, never spoke again and a lot has happened over the year.
D is one of the first few guys I matched with in Pune. We started chatting immediately and exchanged numbers.
He would ask me to meet him every weekend. However, not sure of what to expect I made excuses and avoided meeting him every single time. Soon he figured he was going to Europe for further studies. He left his high paying job, wrapped up his life in Pune and asked me if I would meet him for the first and final drink before he left. I refused.
A year later: Out of the blue, I got a text from an unknown European number. The guy seemed to know me but I just couldn’t recall his name. It took me a while to remember his name. However, we talked occasionally. Mostly generic stuff . That’s how it was and I finally remembered his name (D) and added him as a contact.
July 2016: He came to India for a vacation, was in Mumbai for a few days and requested me to meet him in Mumbai. Again as much as I would have liked to meet him, it was practically not possible for me to go to Mumbai from Pune. I promised him I will try but I didn’t really put much effort.
I shifted to my hometown in the next few days and got another message from him. The conversation grew and we figured we were in the same place. Again, fate had other plans, we couldn’t meet as he had to leave.
We decided to break this pattern and planned a trip together down South.
Trip: Fate was not even close to done with us. Haha! Just two days before the trip we were still not sure if he would meet. The consulate was not ready to accept his visa application; they wanted some extra documents to support his application and if he didn’t have them in time, the plan was going to be canned. But the application was accepted!
One year after swiping on Tinder, living in different countries, we eventually met, for less than a week. Initially it was awkward but as we spent more and more time together, we felt like we had known each other for ages.
We walked up hills, cycled around, crossed rivers, ate at the most exclusive places in the village, drank behind rocks; we almost did everything we could in the available time. By the second day we were very couple-like, completely unlike the two of us. The nights were magical. I yearned for him even more after the trip. It was not just the sex but he was intelligent and very mature.
I know I would like to know him better and I am also aware of the practicality but he is my happy memory. He is awaiting his next European visa to fly out soon. I am glad we still talk and we are very comfortable with each other. I don’t know what category I’d put him in. He is a special, more than a friend, someone I can always turn to.
It is possible that he is reading this post and I hope he does because I wouldn’t be able to tell him about how I feel otherwise.”
